Have you ever browsed Airbnb and wondered what the badge on the left means?Or perhaps the one on the right is more familiar?

This is the Superhost symbol; a badge of quality;  stamp of credibility; a marker of a host who provides a shining example of what it means to provide guests with extraordinary experiences.

There are many reasons to aspire to a Superhost status but don’t worry, reaching this milestone is simpler than you might think. We've provided a guideline below to help you take your hosting status to the next level.

The perks of being a (super)host

From a Host’s perspective

Airbnb created the Superhost to differentiate exceptional, reliable services for guests. With a Superhost status under your belt, you will be able to:

Earn more money: Superhosts often benefit from an increase in revenue as a result of more visibility, credibility and trust from guests.

Attract more guests: The badge makes your listing more appealing to guests because they know you have been rewarded for your great hospitality and guest experience. Oh and guests can even filter their search results to discover only listings with Superhost status.

Access exclusive rewards: When referring new hosts to Airbnb, Superhosts gain an extra 20% on top of the standard bonus.

From a guest’s perspective

No cancellations: If you are a guest looking for a superior Airbnb experience, keep in mind that your Superhost is unable to cancel bookings. For those travelling to a busy area with limited availability, this helps relieve any concerns about hosts cancelling or being unresponsive.

Seasoned Host: Superhosts have completed at least 10 stays in the last year or have had 3 stays that total 100 days or more. This means they are well versed in hospitality and are sure to provide guests with a memorable experience.

How do I become a Superhost?

Achieving Superhost status requires a host to meet a certain set of criteria from Airbnb. When these criteria are followed, Superhost status is awarded automatically.

According to Airbnb, the four criteria that hosts must meet to become an Airbnb Superhost are:

  1. Maintain a 50% review rate or higher - this means replying to at least half of your guest stays
  2. Maintain a 90% response rate or higher - this means receiving feedback from guests
  3. Zero cancellations, except for situations that fall under Airbnb's Extenuating Circumstances policy
  4. Maintain an overall 4.8/5 rating (or Have at least 80% 5-star reviews)
